What a difference a few months make. We started this year off with so many good intentions. We located a new venue, Stockton Country Club, to support our growing monthly meetings and hold our annual labor law conference. We booked a great speaker for the conference and started making our plans. Then, as all of you are aware, the outbreak of the COVD-19 pandemic hit the USA.
At the end of March a “Shelter in Place – SIP” order was issued. Only essential business’ and essential employee’s continue to work. This has also impacted so many non-essential and small businesses. We have had to furlough, lay-off, reduce hours and become creative with work-from-home situations. This has not been an easy time for anyone. I know personally that this has had a huge impact on business, work, families and the way we are currently living.
The CalSHRM April Labor Law conference was cancelled (will be rescheduled for April 2021). The SJSHRM Board also cancelled our April in person meeting. We want to continue to help keep you educated and feel that a virtual ‘web-based’ meeting would be appropriate for May and maybe even June. We are all hoping that the SIP will be lifted in May but we realize that social distancing will become the new normal. This will mean adjustments for everyone. We will continue to do our best to keep you educated and informed from the HR platform.
Thank you to all the HR professionals (you!) out there on the front lines keeping your employee’s engaged and motivated to work during this very stressful time. My hat’s off to all of you.
